Are Cellphones That Important? Is It Necessary to Have Them in Your Hand All The Time?
I feel bad for her, and I hope she’s okay
--
A woman on her way back to California with her family. Stopped at The Olympic National Forest in Washington State. She needed to go to the toilet, so she headed to the nearest outhouse.
I have a picture in my mind’s eye of what happened. She was texting away. She was talking about the beautiful scenery. She might have been fussing about having to use an outhouse.
accidents happen
She should have kept the cellphone in her purse because she dropped it down the hole in the outhouse. If it would have been me, I would have written the phone off, but this woman wasn’t me.
She tried to get the phone out of the muck; and fell into the outhouse hole headfirst. She used her cellphone to call 911. The paramedics got her out, and here’s the thing that makes me shake my head, she refused to go to the hospital.
Outhouses are gross
Cellphones are fun toys and useful tools, but people take them way too seriously. we all have seen them, and we have been guilty of it ourselves.
We’re outside on a beautiful day, sitting on a park bench, or on our porch. It would be a beautiful day, but we don’t notice because we’re playing with our phones.
I was a security guard. I worked at posts where I saw parents engrossed in their phones. While their small children ran all over the place.
Are the information and entertainment that important? The woman dropped her phone into the nastiest environment imaginable. After she was fished out of the filth, she refused to go to the hospital.
She needed Antibiotics, at the very least
I hope she’s alright. She needs Antibiotics and other medications. I’m sure she hasn’t heard the end of this. My dad’s family lives in Washington State. The Pacific Northwest is a beautiful part of the country.
I would have left the cellphone in my car and paid attention to the sites and sounds around me. If I carried my cellphone, I would use the camera and leave the texting and posting for later.
Final thought:
Cellphones are fun. They are great toys and useful tools, but too many people let their toys rob them of being present. It’s a beautiful world out there, so put the phones down and enjoy it.
