I Live in The South and I’m married to a Black Woman

and It’s all good

My wife and I met when I was in Minneapolis and she was in South

Carolina. We started talking on Facebook, and it went from there.

Two years after we started talking we got married at our church. It’s the

best thing I ever did in my life.

I had friends in Minneapolis who warned me about living with a black

woman in the south. They voiced concerns for my safety because the

south is so “ Racist”.

Nothing could be further from the truth. When we had a car, we went into

town often to go shopping or to have dinner and we never had a hostile word

or glance directed toward us.

The only people that stare are older black people. I think that’s odd. It’s not

hostile. My wife and I have never felt threatened by the looks we get. We think

it’s funny.

The funniest incident happened when we were at Walmart grocery shopping.

My wife was at checkout, so I went to get the car to park by the exit so she
