I wrote a story that moved people,

and it surprised me

I often wondered what it would be like to write something that moved people.

I have been writing on Medium for over a year. I have learned a lot and have

enjoyed the process.

Readers comment and clap for my work, but one story in particular received

more comments and claps than all the others.

It was the story of the death of a family pet, a Doberman named Barney. I

wrote it from Barney’s point of view. It struck a cord with quite a few

people. They left comments on how the story moved them and they

thanked me for writing it.

I cried when I wrote the story, Barney has been gone close to twenty years

now, but I still think about him and I still get a tear in my eye. I learned

something writing the story.

I learned that if I write with feeling I will elicit emotion from my readers

If I tear up, the reader will most likely tear up as well.

Writing like that is not easy for me. I am closed off most of the time, it’s

hard for me to expose myself emotionally but if I want to write it’s what

I need to do.

I have got a taste of what it’s like to write something that strikes people’s

hearts and it’s a good feeling. I want to do it again and again.

The responses surprised me, and they gratified me as well.

I hope to do it again.
