LONG DISTANCE RELATIONSHIPS CAN WORK, I MET MY WIFE ON FACEBOOK, AND WE LIVED IN DIFFERENT STATES

I was living in someone’s basement, I had left Florida, after two days of trying to work a midnight shift job, sleeping in my truck during the day, in August, in Florida. I found myself in Minneapolis.

It didn’t work out, two days before I became homeless, I started talking to an African-American woman on Facebook.

Neither one of us were looking for a Relationship, we were just talking. I was told I wasn’t welcome where I was staying, the night before Halloween. This was dropped on me, as I was leaving for work.

I got back to the house the next morning, I changed and packed a bag, leaving most of my stuff in the basement. Before I packed my laptop, I checked my email and Facebook.

“How are you?” She asked, she was waiting for me. I was too pre-occupied to wonder about that.

“Not too good.” I answered. I told her what happened, and that I had to go. She told me to take care of myself. I said I would, then I logged off and packed my MacBook and left.

The shelter threw people out at 6:00 A.M. I had hardly had any sleep, so I went to my truck where I slept most of the day, but before I fell asleep, I was able to find a WIFI hotspot, so I checked my email and Facebook.

She was waiting for me. “How did you make out?” She asked. I told her how I had trouble finding the place, and that I didn’t get there until after midnight, and that I was very tired.

“I’ll check with you later, get some rest.” She texted back.

I told her I would keep in touch, then I fell asleep, sleeping most of the day in my truck. That’s how it started. It was one of the worst periods of my life, and a stranger, I woman I never met in person seemed to be the only person that cared.

A couple of nights later, I asked somebody, another homeless man, where did everyone go to during the day. That’s how I found out about the library. The next morning, after we were rousted awake, and had our breakfast of bad coffee and oatmeal, or grits. I took a nap in my truck, then headed to the library.

Most of the computer terminals were occupied, by guys I saw at the shelter. I filled out a form to get a library card, then I logged onto one of the computers and Facebook.

She was waiting there for me. We talked off and on, via Facebook Messenger, throughout the day. It didn’t take long, before I yearned for those moments, like a drowning man yearns for a lifeboat.

TAKEAWAYS: 1. Love can find you when you’re not looking for it

2. In your darkest times, you can find someone who can shine a

A light.

3. keep your heart open, no matter who or what wants to tear you

Down.

Never give up on finding love, keep your heart open, and you will find

It.
