Maybe I’m a writer after all

I write short stories and I want to write novels. I have been writing for years, but I never submitted anything, until recently. I wrote a science fiction story and submitted it. I received a rejection email two days later. I was undeterred, I submitted another story a few weeks ago, and received the nicest rejection letter. He said he liked the story a lot, and he referenced scenes and characters, so I know he actually read it. I never imagined that a rejection letter would validate me as a writer, or make me feel good about myself, but it did. I can’t wait to revise my recently completed first draft and start the process again.

I am still working on my memoir, I was frustrated with it so I quit to write a short story. That was a good thing, because I was able to read it with fresh eyes which caused me to delete half of it, and start over again. I am excited about the whole thing, and am looking forward to the challenge.
